This is the time of year when we all set certain resolutions of things we want to accomplish in the coming year. We make our promises to ourselves to eat healthier, exercise more, and treat ourselves better, so that the next year will be a positive one. What is on your list this year of healthy resolutions? For many people, the list is filled with resolutions that are not really achievable, but rather a wish list that, unfortunately, gets forgotten or put aside by week three of the New Year. Here is our resolution list for healthy living and of course that includes eating FISH! Enjoy making your own list and a Happy New Year to you and yours from our family here at Channel Fish!

  1. Hydrate daily. This means drinking water throughout the day. According to the Mayo Clinic, that means: about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids for men and about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women.
  2. Fruits and Veggies – Aim to add at least a serving or two more to your daily intake. The USDA’s Dietary Guidelines recommend adults eat anywhere from 5 to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables per day depending on age, gender, physical activity, and overall health. Most people are not getting the correct amount and you will be amazed at how little you snack on junk if you fill up on fruits and veggies.
  3. Reduce your wine and alcohol intake. At the same time try to reduce sugary drinks. For most of us the best way to do this may be to reduce slowly.
  4. Get moving! Start an exercise routine, even if it is just 10 minutes a day to start.
  5. Eat healthy fats like the ones found in fish. Plan your meals in advance so you are not tempted to hit a drive-thru on your way home from work. Check out the Channel Fish blog for new and easy recipes each month.
  6. Stay flexible. Try a little yoga or stretch each day to keep your muscles limber and spine flexible.
  7. Get enough sleep. Keep track of your sleep through an app on your smartphone or FitBit to see how much you really are getting, then plan bedtime and wake times accordingly.
  8. Read more. Americans consume a lot of social media and news, but not as much when it comes to reading actual books. Make an effort to read for enjoyment when you can.
  9. Practice good oral hygiene to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
  10. Try stress relievers, whether it is meditation or going for a walk every day to give your body a break from the stress that we all feel.
