CFP recently completed its first SMETA 4-Pillar audit, at the request of several important customers. The SMETA 4-Pillar audit reviews social compliance for national and international businesses. It is a world-class, global audit that combines facility standards for environmental safety with leadership ethics and employment codes of conduct. It is designed to enable businesses to evaluate working conditions within their supply chain.
A SMETA 4-Pillar audit evaluates a company’s adherence to labor standards, health and safety, environmental performance, and business ethics. CFP’s recent SMETA 4-Pillar audit focused on the commitment of our senior leadership team to provide the highest standard of ethics, both written and unwritten codes of principles, and values that govern decisions. This includes how fairly our employees are treated, the management programs we employ for rewarding accomplishments by individuals and teams, furnishing healthy, safe, and clean environments, fair compensation practices, and the ethics practiced in sales and marketing.
The audit included safety tours of the facility and personal interviews with over 25 CFP staff members. Staffers were asked about hours worked, working conditions, and treatment of employees.
To show compliance, CFP met or exceeded the SMETA 4-Pillar requirements with its:
- Formal and informal policies and rules
- Norms for acceptable behavior
- Financial reward system
- Hiring practices, Application of legal behavior
- The degree to which professionalism is emphasized and
- The company’s decision-making process
