This label is a voluntary one that food processors can add, but they can only do it under strict guidelines. As of a 2024 ruling, the USDA “allows the voluntary ‘Product of USA’ or ‘Made in the USA’ label claim to be used on meat, poultry and egg products only when they are derived from animals born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the United States.” The rule prohibits misleading labeling that implies that a product is from the USA. This means that consumers can trust products with this label to genuinely be produced in the United States.
